The social finance field is growing rapidly, with over half of millennials interested in seeing their investments deliver positive social and environmental outcomes. Institutions are responding to demand from the investor market for more financial products that deliver positive outcomes, and to do so they are investing more and more in social entrepreneurs. This means that funding opportunities for charities, non-profits, for-profits, and co-ops are steadily increasing, and it's time to think about how you can tap into the growing field of social finance. However, taking outside investment may be an unfamiliar concept to you, or a complicated one at best. In this course, you'll learn all the basics of social finance, including the main sources of capital, what they can be used for, and who supplies them. You'll learn about the types of finance available to you and the differences between them, so you can identify the best fit for your organization.   This course introduces the types of legal structures available to you as a social enterprise, and what nuances you will need to consider before choosing the correct structure for your social enterprise. In particular, you'll learn about the special considerations non-profits and charities have to take while engaging in enterprise activity, and about a brand new legislation form in Canada, called the Community Contribution Company or Community Interest Company. You'll leave this session with a clear idea of the incorporation types available to you, and when in the planning process you should choose to incorporate.
