For social enterprises to deliver real and lasting change they must first be clear on what success looks like and they will deliver it. To do this you must find a way of connecting the strategies of your social enterprise with its performance and the results you ultimately achieve. Through practical activities and examples, this course will help you to build a simple but effective results framework or ‘impact blueprint’ for your organization. Confused about the difference between the Theory of Change and Logic Models? Can’t tell your outputs from your outcomes? Not sure why any of this matters? Then this course is for you.
At the end of this course, learners will…
Understand and be able to explain the following key points…
- The difference between the resources (inputs and activities) and the results (outputs, outcomes and impacts) of a social enterprise
- The importance of defining a social enterprise’s Theory of Change and visualising the underlying logic by which results occur
- The different types of social outcomes that arise from the work of social enterprises (changes in behaviour, attitudes, condition, knowledge or status)
- The chain of outcomes that typically arise, including short term, intermediate and longer term changes
Be able to use the following skills, tools, processes, procedures…
- Use an Outcome Builder template to produce a concise and high quality outcome statement
- Use a simple visual Logic Model – the Impact Blueprint – to describe how and why desired changes are expected to happen
- Apply an Impact Blueprint as a results framework for each of the four main components of your value proposition.
Actually do the following tasks…
- Put in place an effective framework that describes clearly what success looks like, how it will be realised, and how it will be measured
- Identify the main intended end result(s) of your work, which describe fulfilment of your mission and convey your value proposition
- Identify and state clearly between 1 and 3 outcomes that most directly affect your intended impact(s) and over which you have control
- Establish a small and manageable set of performance measures that are specific to the changes that you can observe and measure
- Identify the combination of actions that it will take to achieve your outcomes

While there is no obligation to provide information in both Canadian official languages, many SEI Courses are offered in both English and French. Some content may not be available in both languages; our international online learning community is not subject to the Canadian Official Languages Act.

Some SEI Courses may be offered for a fee or subscription price. You agree to pay any applicable course or subscription fee and any taxes and other fees that may accrue in relation to your registration for a course. SEI Course fees will be payable in advance. All course fees are non-refundable and non-transferable except as expressly provided in the additional terms in conditions for the applicable course. All fees and applicable taxes, if any, are payable in USD.
Termination and Access Restriction
SEI reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to terminate your access to the Services or any portion thereof at any time, without notice.
Content and Content Rights
For purposes of these Terms: (i) “Content” means text, graphics, images, music, software, audio, video, works of authorship of any kind, and information or other materials that are posted, generated, provided or otherwise made available through the Services; and (ii) “User Content” means any Content that Account holders (including you) provide to be made available through the Services. Content includes without limitation User Content.
The Content may include the opinion of the specific instructor and are not statements of advice, opinion, or information of SEI. The Services may also include the personal opinions and other expressions by Account holders who post entries on a wide range of topics. You are solely responsible for all your User Content, and for any consequences of posting or submitting it. Interacting with us on social media
SEI uses social media as an alternative method of interacting with users, sharing content and resources. Social media accounts may be subject to downtime outside SEI’s control. SEI accepts no responsibility for platforms becoming unresponsive or unavailable.
SEI has no control over the social media platform providers’ Terms of Service/Use. Nor does SEI have control over the posts made by other users. SEI is not responsible for the information found through third-party links or ads on social media services; neither does it endorse the sites or their content.
